actually conceptualize this post some time back and now it’s further inspired by the recent happenings in China to get published. There’s a video here and story here. starting from an annonymous text message which got viral online and eventually causing a protest to break out on the streets and the government to halt the plans of a project that is economically good for the country but not environmentally. I agree that this could have been better managed if the government had paid more attention to the warning signals from Taihu Lake pollution incident and better urban planning. Given the explosive growth, it is understandable but definitely not an excuse. I’m glad that the people are actually taking action and pressurizing the government to take a harder look at environmental issues that directly impacts the lives of the citizens.

Sometimes, you wonder if it really needs some major crisis or occurrence for people to actually fix existing problems. often times, it might be too late and too hard to change by then. the same can be said for organisations and divisions who had deeply rooted problems that were not resolved for a long time till consequences surface and the management decided to pay greater attention. It is not that hard to see the warning signals but many plainly choose to ignore them.

Singapore’s little green movement also warrants support. Good that we finally got on the road. personally, i’ll bring a bigger bag out on shopping days to cut down on need for carriers. it doesn’t hurt to be green so let’s all do it to make this world a better place for all!
