wireless electricity is finally becoming a reality! June 21, 2007

am glad to hear that wireless electricity has been developed via resonance effect and is proven to be safe for use. It can actually be used to charge up laptops and mobile devices. and is touted to be able to be used within 3-5metres. this is just so cool i have to say! i recalled how a group of my friends back in SV days actually contemplated a business plan like that during one of our class but it was shot down due to safety concerns. At the initial point of idea presentation, i thought it was such an outrageous idea. insane, incredible, incredulous, impossible! not quite impossible actually but the idea is akin to saying that you can actually have a choice of residing out of earth. which again might come true in the future.. who knows? simply put, it’s quite mind-blowing. and we’re talking about at least 2 years back from BBC’s publication of the recent breakthrough. Of course, it might take another 2 to eventually reach the market. What does this tells us? each of us are capable of coming up with super cool ideas that will rock the world but actually having the tenacity and preserverance to see it through to reality is what differentiates the entrepreneurs from the dreamers (or idealists). A couple of us had conceived the concept of an online word processor (we actually got to the stage of conceptualisation) back then but it only really took off recently. I have to say that virtual ubiquity truly did an amazing job.. writewith.com has a pretty good concept similar to what we had in mind at that time though but buzzword is making it the way mac does, making it intuitive through superb design and idiot-proof use with a simple UI somewhat similar to Ms Word but just much more intuitive. again this proves that it’s not the idea that matters in the end, it’s the execution of it. Even if you arrive later into the market, superiority of the product as well as many other factors will propel you to the position you deserve to be.
way to go peeps! perhaps the timing wasn’t right for us back then but i’m sure it will be soon enough if we press on and stick with it the next time round. many times the heart is willing but the lack of resources financially or in terms of expertise just brought the venture to a premature end. which is why having a community of experts in different fields is increasingly valuable. thanks to all the activists, technologists, community builders, practitioners, critics etc for all coming together and making it conducive for entrepreneurs to take their venture on a longer journey which might just tip over and cross the chasm. i’m heartened to see that someone commented on ‘today’ that he wouldn’t be surprised if the next google were to come out of singapore. i’ll be even more delighted if i hear that it’s a female entrepreneur (or at least a group of entrepreneurs comprising of a decent ratio of females) who actually made it happen. =)
