had a pretty interesting discussion on alpha females over the weekend at redang and a pretty good trip too. these days traveled quite a bit outta town with colleagues and sometimes together with other frens too. =)

alpha refers to the ’superior’ species, prolly about top 20% of the population. alpha male is not a new concept and it evolved back in the days of caveman and all. alpha female however seemed pretty new a concept. the definition of alpha male and alpha females are disparate as the varying gender role in society called for different versions of the alpha. Interestingly, alpha females are attracted to alpha males contrary to popular belief of her with a more submissive man. It is possible to improve your alpha-ness but is it necessary for everyone to be alpha? How varied are the personalities amongst the alphas?

According to AskMen.com, ‘When you can make women feel both listened to and led, both recognized and guided , then you will carry a “vibe” about you that no busting, sarcastic, “Alpha” loudmouth could ever even hope to imitate, much less realize and enjoy.’

alpha females (according to a friend’s opinion) is one who is able to use her charms to assert, has social poweress, complemented by good looks and physique, with no need for external validation. Females traditionally hold the role of a protector whereas men are more of a hunter.. alpha-male females may be necessarily useful in certain context (e.g. as a boss, in a competitive workplace, as an entrepreneur) but alpha females may still turn out better eventually.

perhaps we are striving to be alpha females in our own regards (realms of imagination and definitions). =)

found this online.. though i bet that it’s gonna show up as something very similar with any other dates.. so can u trust what it says then?

fun quiz for myspace profile and blog

i’m starting to think that the facebook horoscope might be based on the status u write too.. somehow, it seemed to be linked. or perhaps not.. in either case, horoscopes should still be taken with a pinch of salt.. or chilli pepper~

Juz got back from Jolin Tsai’s concert (thanks to peixin) held in the Singapore Indoor Stadium at Kallang. Was a great concert and my first one. =) only got to know i am attending today. super impromptu but that’s how i like it.
raine at jolin’s concertraine at jolin’s concert 2007

She’s really pretty and has many fanciful clothes.. there were some reviews that she wasn’t really singing that much though she danced a lot. since i’m much more into her dance and ’show’ so works for me.. some songs were new to me anyway.. she has this really cute voice and well, she did try to get the Singaporeans high via kallang waves and requesting the audience to stand.. was pretty good with some minor hiccups..

overall a pretty good concert and actually inspired me to have a mini ‘dance’ going for my future wedding (hopefully) and my friend’s wedding (if i get to be invited for the opening dance).. in a casual setting it might be more interesting to see some talents of the bride and groom (e.g. sing or dance).. can’t believe that i’m getting so excited for my friend’s wedding next year.. after all it’s the first wedding (amongst my peers) that i’ll get to attend. amazing! perhaps i wldn’t be that excited after many more weddings especially if i have to attend them alone.. we’ll see.

fortnight doctor’s visits are getting on me… March 12, 2007

I just completed my fourth visit to the doctor’s in two months.. and it’s not two full months yet!

In the past two years, i practically never visited the doctor’s. In fact, in US and UK i’ve never stepped into a clinic or hospital. Before that i am also under the illusion that i have a pretty strong immune system since i dun often need to consult the doctor’s. But in the two months since i got back i’ve been visiting so much doctors and on medication practically everyday since after CNY. my entire family has been under this bout of flu and cough ever since we got back from malaysia for CNY. and my condition juz got more severe after each consultation. Have been visiting a fair bit of western and eastern doctor’s and am frankly sick of medicine consumption.

gosh.  am hoping this will be my last visit and i really do need to get well soon!

Nokia PC Suite Problems March 9, 2007

i actually posted on the nokia forum after spending hrs troubleshooting with no success:
Nokia 7390 Contacts Synchronisation error – backup + PCSync fail

I am unable to backup nor synchronise with PC Suite. The backup hangs as it reaches about 10% at contacts backup and the synchronisation also fails with a restart of my phone.

The PC Sync log says:

PC Sync could not update the data to the mobile phone
The connection to the mobile phone has been lost

I connected my phone to PC via cable, there were no such problems in the past and i am unsure if it has to do with the calendar or contacts synchronisation (probably contacts).

I restored factory settings on phone, created new settings on PC Sync, reinstalled software and none of these has helped.

I am really irritated by this problem as it also caused me to be unable to modify my contacts details on my phone. Please help!

Anyone has any advice?

received an ‘assignment’ from my previous CT tutor Mr Se to prepare for this sharing with my fellow jc classmates. there are just too many photos so pictorial illustration is opted out.

here it goes as i walk you through my memory lane…

2007

the year has just began not long ago but i am definitely expecting an exciting one ahead. juz celebrated CNY in malaysia, currently working on my thesis due on my birthday, graduating in end apr, travel/work in the summer in Japan/Europe/China, reporting to work in Novena in july/august..

2006

i spent the first half of 2006 in California and came back to Singapore in July. Flew off again on September 11th 2006 to London and spent four months in Europe on exchange. Had an amazing experience, met many wonderful people, traveled independently and undertook my first backpacking trip for a full month in Europe.

2005

Spent the first half of the year in NUS taking a full load of class. also engrossed in work, internship and hall life. NOC was an amazing experience and for a full year from the summer of 2005 i got the opportunity to be in California, studying in Stanford, working in Atrua and engaging in the activities in Silicon Valley. Of course, the many road trips we took, the amazing people i met in the States, friends that see me through many tough moments, skydiving, snowboarding, surfing, driving the first car i own are dear to me..

2003, 2004

Much of my first 2 years in University has been a time involving hall life, school and work. Took on a couple of internships in the holidays which also brought me many new perspectives. Rag, IHG, hall food, the life in block D TH, xinyao, dance, numerous orientation camps, NUSSU MDS… Actively engaged in university activities and experiencing the full blast of the life as an NUS student, studying in libraries for exams, jogging in the middle of the night around campus.. those are the memorable times…

What more can i ask for? I am truly glad to have the most amazing time ever in my undergraduate years. Living on campus, off-campus, overseas in two totally contrasting continents.. Meeting amazing people, being involved in a multitude of activities, work, study, research; the past four years has been such an awesome time as i mature and glean from each and every experience that i am grateful to have. I have to thank IRAS, my supportive family and NUS for me to be able to have such wonderful opportunities while being financially independent and graduating on time. The same goes to my dear friends who helped me through each and every challenges i encounter and taught me so many invaluable lessons. The inspiring lecturers, professors, my supervisors and helpful staff in NUS played a part too. On the whole, I am really fortunate and grateful for everything.

the way CNY should be… February 22, 2007

CNY is (as i recall growing up) a fun-filled time. Lots of food, lots of people, lots of fun.

i grew up as the eldest among all my cousins and most CNYs i get to meet up with them and gawed at how much they have grown, comparing how tall they have grown relative to other cousins and how some even surpassed me! Keeping track with their age, life in school and even hearing updates about their love life… It’s a truly amazing process to watch them transform from birth to now and naturally i nutured an affinity with kids.

cousinscousin

I really enjoyed having so many people under one roof at the same time. Sadly, in these days with increasing nucleated families, it’s harder to have that and even harder to get everyone together. I only wish that as each of us matures and take divergent paths in life, we will still keep in touch and gather together to share our joys and woes as a family.
